Short guide useful to understand how to move in the most common situations
TAILORED SHOWER ENCLOSURE
The custom-made shower enclosure is a wide and varied topic. We think that a short guide can be useful to understand how to move in the most common situations. Since it is not exhaustive, Relax is at your disposal to recommend the most suitable solution for your bathroom with its expertise.
1 – Shower enclosure made to measure in height
From the production point of view we have no limitations.
However, to guarantee the stability of the shower enclosure and the safety of those who use it, we recommend respecting the following heights:
4 mm thick glass, maximum recommended height 200 cm
6 mm thick glass, maximum recommended height 220 cm
8 mm thick glass, maximum recommended height 260 cm
2 – Shower enclosure made to measure in lenght or depth
In general, there are no limits of length or depth in the production of a shower enclosure
In fact, it is sufficient to combine the door with a fixed wall in line to have the required size. While the door has limitations in the maximum dimensions, which are different according to the type of opening (sliding, swing, pivoting or saloon), the fixed wall does not have any. The only trick to follow is the use of the correct support bar, to give stability to the shower enclosure.
3 – Presence of windows in the shower room
Some types of shower enclosures (for example the walk-in) require, for their stability, a support bar to be mounted. The support bar is usually the horizontal one (A) (perpendicular to the wall). If the presence of a window prevents its placement, Relax solves the problem by proposing alternatively the following types of support: 45° bar (B), vertical ceiling bar (C) or a clamp (D) to be used both on the wall and on the ceiling if the height of the glass allows it.
4 – Shower enclosure shaped for inclined roof
It is the simplest solution. In fact, it doesn’t require a great planning but only a correct measurement. In any case, there is still the possibility of making a 2 cm adjustment if the wall is not perpendicular thanks to the profile fixed to the wall. Stability is guaranteed by the support bar, which can be horizontal, vertical, 45° or replaced by a clamp if it is to be fixed on the inclined roof (see point
shaped walk-in with horizontal support bar
If you need to install a corner shower enclosure, we can use a model with hinged or sliding opening. Between the two hypotheses, the shower enclosure with hinged opening is usually preferred. However, let’s see the detail:
a) Shower enclosure with hinged opening
The shaping can be done in the door (A) or in the fixed side (B)
b) Shower enclosure with sliding opening
Even with the sliding opening, the shaping can be done on the side of the door or on the fixed side. If the shaping is done on the fixed side there are no problems (A).
If the sliding part is located on the attic roof (B), the opening dimensions of the sliding door and the sliding track must be taken into account.
Compared to the solutions seen above, the niche shower enclosure provides for the possibility of having a hinged door, a hinged door with a fixed side or a sliding door. Let’s see the different solutions:
a) Hinged door only: it can be shaped without problems. It is important to remember that, if the wall is not perfectly straight, our profiles allow for a 2 cm adjustment.
b) Hinged door + fixed side in line: in this case, the shaping can be done on the hinged door (A), on the fixed wall (B) or, in very particular situations, on both (C).
c) Sliding door + fixed side in line: shaping can only be done on the fixed part. As seen above, however, the opening dimensions of the sliding door and the track must be taken into account so that the entry space allows convenient access.
5 – Shower enclosure shaped for extension/wall
The presence of protrusions or low walls is frequent in the bathroom. Also in this case, it is possible to offer solutions that include the walk-in, the corner shower enclosure, or the niche shower enclosure. Let’s see the three different options:
The situation is very similar to that seen with the attic. The only difference is where the shaping is done. It is fixed to the wall with a profile that allows for an adjustment of 2 cm if the wall is not perpendicular. Stability is guaranteed by the support bar, which can be horizontal, vertical, 45° or replaced by a clamp if it is to be fixed on the inclined roof (see above point 3).
In the case of a corner shower enclosure with hinged opening, the shaping can be done both on the door (A) and on the fixed side (B). Of the 2 solutions, the one with the shaped fixed side (B) is preferable.
The shaping of the niche shower enclosure with swing opening can include shaping on the fixed side (A) or a door with hinges shaped in its fixed part (B).
6 – Shower enclosure over a bathtub
The situation of the shower enclosure attached to the bathtub is resolved with the same approach as when in the bathroom we have the shower enclosure in the presence of a wall (see above). It can be solved with both the Walk-in and the corner shower enclosure.
To offer an alternative and more practical solution, Relax has developed specific models that can be combined with the bathtub such as Luxor 140 S
7 – Special compensation profiles
The customized shower cubicle is used when the bathroom has particular conformations or when particular dimensions are needed. Sometimes, however, these situations can be resolved with special compensation profiles. Their advantage is that they allow you to use a standard size shower enclosure and therefore save you time and money.
The types of these profiles are:
7.1 Extension profiles
They are the most common ones and they are used when the standard shower enclosure needs a few more centimeters to be installed. They allow to increase the standard dimensions:
- up to 4 cm per side, in case of corner shower enclosure solution,
- up to 8 cm in the case of a niche shower enclosure.
This profile is positioned between the shower cubicle and the fixing wall and will be of the same finish and height as the shower cubicle.
For example, the final size of an 80×80 corner shower enclosure may become up to 84×84.
There is not only one type of elongation profile, but there are different types:
Internal elongation profile External elongation profile External elongation profile
7.2 Side fixing profiles
It is usually used in the presence of a wall, a ledge or a niche when it is not possible to mount the profile on the wall from the front, but only on the side.
It can be used for corner enclosures, in niche or fixed walls, in the various types of opening.
Rectangular profile for lateral fixing Square profile for lateral fixing
7.3 Angular compensation profiles
It is used when the shower enclosure must be installed in the presence of angles not perfectly right. It is an uncommon situation, but it can be resolved quickly and without involving excessive costs.
To solve this solution, Relax has profiles with different angles.
8 – Asimmetrical shower enclosure for narrow and long bathroom
The narrow and long bathroom often requires custom-made shower enclosures. As we have seen, Relax is able to provide multiple solutions both in width and in depth. However, in order to try to solve these space-saving problems of the bathroom with standard solutions, Relax has asymmetrical shower enclosures in its catalogue suitable for solving these situations.
If the doors and windows are positioned on the short sides, it becomes difficult to position a corner shower enclosure or, even positioning it, there may be little space inside the shower.
The LUXOR model, which has a depth of 60 cm at the fixing point, lengthens by 120cm or 140cm and progressively widens up to 80cm, to allow to move inside comfortably. The opening is both internal and external.
It is a shower enclosure with a sliding door ideal for a narrow and long bathroom. It maintains a reduced depth but stretches its length to become comfortable.
9 – Tailored shower enclosure for disabled and eldery people
The Light D1 (A) and D2 (B) model is a shower enclosure with the doors divided into two parts. In this way it is possible to open the upper part of the door independently from the lower part. By doing this you can help the person who is inside the shower cabin without having the problem of water coming out.
The Light AS model allows to have a total opening and to be without any lower or upper barrier. It can be for a niche (A) or for the corner (B)
10 – Tailored shower trays
Stone, Lago and Raso shower trays are in GEL-COAT and mineral resins. They have excellent resistance to scratches and wear thanks to the 1 mm-thick gel-coat coating.
They can be customized both in width and in length up to 250 cm. If necessary, they can be cut on site.
Their main characteristics are:
Better resistance to scratches and wear thanks to the gel-coat coating of about 1mm thickness;
Mass coloring of the shower tray.
The Slim model in Solid Surface can be customized not only in width and length, but also in shape, based on a design sent by the customer.
